" The human joy of the Renaissance "
In the harmonious understanding of the world and the search for fulfilment, those in search of meaning achieve contentment from a joyful sense of being.
In the midst of a chaotically multiplying civilisation, the artist strives for cosmic unity and provides a creative force. The only model is the all-encompassing model of creation. Every attempt at re-creation reworks that which exists, reshaping or at best expanding it gradually.
People today enjoy the benefit of historical hindsight. The intricacy of current trends also contributes to our understanding of complex developments. Given this surfeit of knowledge, however, specialisation can lead to a dangerous narrowness.
Despite this, individuals should try to retain an overview and hold greater aspirations. When we cease trying to do so, the inevitable outcome is subjective limitation and diminishment. We must not hesitate to dive into the vast pool of history and make use of anything we find there, like a conjuror uses props or a painter uses boundless imagination. Nothing – not human laws, religious precepts or philosophical views – should stand in the way.
If we are afraid to cross such self-imposed boundaries, we will never reach our worthwhile objective. We must overcome all obstacles, at all costs, making full use of the freedoms at our disposal. For a free spirit, there can be no limitations, no return to the safe shores of mediocrity. For an artist, there can be no accepted conventions on style, form, colour and other materials of self-expression. The taboos of the day must not prevent the artist from making his mark on an exalted era, free from intellectual obstacles. The artist will thereby express his status as a critical catalyst of a new age.
This situation is not necessarily synonymous with chaos and anarchy; instead, freedom without borders gives rise to new forms, taking the place of the old and occupying the time and space beyond. We then find ourselves with new worldviews, societal shifts and fast-changing environments for individuals and groups.
Since the ‘big bang’, only the form of the universe has changed: nothing can disappear, it only changes materially into new ‘states of being’. Throughout human history, all form has been retained – it is simply reforming constantly. Nothing is disregarded or forgotten, nothing dies. Every generation inevitably reshapes the world; its success in doing so depends on the awareness of its best individuals.
Chaos or the (not immediately apparent) ‘higher order’ can seem bewildering, overwhelming us with its complexity at times. Strength will create a basis for expanding living space and seeking openness without borders.
